    Thoughts from Tuesday Night

    Dear Loma Families:

    Fresh Cut Grass

In the past year, we have smelled a lot of smoke on campus.  Some from our fire, some from Soberanes.  Some from anxiety provoking brush burns.  This week, the smell of fresh cut grass greeted me.  It made me smile and breathe deep.  The smile was not only from appreciation of our new Kindergarten and CT/Community Center grass, but also from all the “fullness of time” efforts that made it possible to look forward to a greener, stronger future.

The hope of Kinder and CT grass has been long standing.  Hope is sometimes hard to hang onto, but if any mountain can do it, it is ours.  Our new grass is symbolic.  Symbolic of our recovery; symbolic of our quest to improve; symbolic of our teachers’ long pursuit of improved surroundings for students and our team’s long view of what is possible.  I have learned to be both patient and persistent here at Loma Prieta.  Sometimes we have had to wait longer than we’d like to secure what we want for our kids.  We are still waiting for many things – a Loma field, a rebuilt community center, a facility for Kids and Co., more shared space for community groups, a full science program at Loma, a band….and so much more.

But, we are getting ready for the Gala.  It is a festive evening celebrating our schools and beginning to dream again about the future.  Your generosity of donations, bidding, volunteering, and of making sure that all the details are covered are really a labor of love and commitment to our schools and kids.  I love that we laugh, sip, shop, dance, chop, jog and share our way to having more than the basics for our kids.  Please see the gala auction kick-off flyer attached and join the fun even if you aren’t able to join us Saturday night.

Our amazing Home and School Clubs and LPEF certainly keep the FUN in fundraising.  Thank you, one and all, for a great start at shaping the future.  We are all in this together.  The grass IS getting greener on the other side of the fence!  I can’t wait to run in the sprinklers!

    Sincerely,

    Corey Kidwell

    Superintendent/Principal

    What’s for Dinner?

Our Home and School Clubs have partnered with Willow Street Wood Fired Pizza and Main Street Burgers' "Giving Back" fundraising program TODAY!   Have lunch or dinner at either restaurant - or order a meal to go - and these restaurants will donate a percentage of the sales back to our schools!  You must bring the flyer (attached) with you though!

    Picture Day is Coming!

The fall tradition is upon us.  Mark your calendars now for picture day at both schools on Monday, October 17th.  It’s a Monday so it will be easy to miss.  All students will have their photos taken for school records and you will have the opportunity to purchase photos as well.

    “Take it Personally”

The Project Cornerstone workshop, Take it Personally, is always well received.  Loma and CT families are invited to join with the next offering of this popular class beginning October 14th.  The class will focus on key topics important to parents of school age kids including:

    •    What are the 8 Keys To Success?

    •    Tools for building stronger family communication.

    •    Setting and keeping safe boundaries/rules that teach.

    •    Passing along our values, like lifelong learning...

    •    Skills for growing, living and connecting with others.

    •    Taking every moment as an opportunity to build stronger relationships with youth.

Please take a look at the enclosed flyer to see if you can take advantage of this Parenting Continuum offering.

    CT English Needs Basketball Coaches

We are looking for basketball coaches for the upcoming Girls basketball season.  Practices begin on October 17th and we are still short coaches.
