Thoughts from Tuesday Night
Dear Loma/CT Families:
It is always hectic this time of year. This week made even more so on campus by the activity surrounding our major re-construction project. When life speeds up, it is a good reminder to try to slow down. The holidays are really about our connections to one another, finding time to show we care for family and friends, and helping neighbors and strangers in need. In that spirit, I am happy to share with you that the West Valley Community Services (WVCS) is now offering a mobile food pantry and supportive services here on the mountain. If you, or anyone you know, may be in need of food, emergency financial assistance, access to low cost health care, or a variety of supportive services, please point them to this new service being delivered directly to the mountain. The WVCS mobile center will be at Mountain Bible Church every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please see the attached flyer for more details. The services are available to everyone in need. Pass it on!
LPEF Year in Review
Thanks to the continued generosity of our donors, the Loma Public Education Fund is on track for the year ahead. Please see Ben Abeln’s letter attached today. To the many families and community members who have sustained our foundation efforts over the years, please know that we would not have the schools we do without your generous support. Thanks too to the dedication of the LPEF Board for their tireless fundraising and promotion of so much fun on the mountain.
The Bee is Back!
Loma Prieta students are ramping up to participate in the 2017 Scripps National Spelling Bee. Many of our students have been working through this year’s word lists and getting ready for some stiff competition. Each class in grades 1 through 5 will hold a mini-spelling bee on the road to the semi-finals. Our top two spellers in each class will be invited to participate in the Spelling Bee Semi-Finals this Friday at 9:00 am in the Loma Forum. The final round will take place on Wednesday, December 21st, at 12:30 pm. We are proud to send this year’s upper grade winner to the next level in the Scripps competition. Parents are encouraged to come watch the Bee!
