Thoughts from Tuesday Night
Dear Loma/CT Parents and Guardians:
A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
This graph shows what Loma and CT receive in discretionary “one-time” funds from the state of California. I heard parents talking this week about the belief that “Loma is flush with cash so we don’t need to give to KEEP! this year.”
If we want to KEEP what we have, the KEEP! Campaign needs to raise $100,000 between now and June 30th. The next graph shows where we are today.
The KEEP! Campaign is an important element of a multi-pronged strategy by LPEF to ensure our kids have access to many of the educational enrichments and supports found in larger, more affluent schools. KEEP! helps fund music, art, science, PE, libraries, and much more. Together, we can KEEP our schools strong.
Donation boxes are in each school office. Or you can donate on line here: http://www.lpef.org/keep
Problem of the Month!
Loma and CT students will be working on a "problem of the month" district wide as part of the Silicon Valley Math Initiative our teachers have been involved with. Ms. Ray's Class has a special request:GOT MILK?**
Ms. Ray’s Kindergarten is building an igloo out of recycled gallon sized plastic jugs. They are collecting clean, empty milk or water jugs (the kind with handles). The class will use these jugs to explore the district wide Math Problem of the Month and to celebrate Earth Day by constructing an igloo shaped structure. It will take about 250 jugs to make this happen, so please help if you can! Every plastic jug that you donate will be good for one raffle ticket, and the completed igloo will be raffled off after the Gallery Walk for the Problem of the Month (the first week of May). It will make a terrific reading nook, playhouse or fort!
**They also need a large piece of cardboard for the base; a refrigerator box or similar would be perfect.
Bring these items to room KE during the whole month of April! For more information, see Ms. Ray : ) firstname.lastname@example.org
Back By Popular Demand – Common Core Math Night!
The shift in curriculum to the national standards in math is often challenging for parents working with kids at home. We are once again inviting you to join us for a math evening with some of our amazing teachers – Mrs. Nefian, Mrs. Lyon, Mrs. Dufort, and Ms. Drazen. Please join us in the Loma Forum from 6:30-7:30 pm Thursday, April 13th. This evening will be targeted to grades four through eight, but all are welcome.
Please join Board President Deana Arnold and me for coffee and conversation on Wednesday, April 26th, at 8:30 a.m. in the art room. Come hear about progress on the reconstruction, building and field master plan update, and many other topics related to next year and beyond. Bring your questions, comments and concerns, and join us from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. See you there!
Save the Date
We will celebrate the wonderful volunteers who support our school on May 10 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us!
