    Thoughts from Tuesday Night

Dear Loma and CT Parents and Guardians:

Please join us in celebrating the end of your child’s school year.  Both schools will be hosting “Open House” this Thursday night.  Your students’ work will be showcased and there is much to be proud of in every classroom.  Loma’s Open House runs from 6:30 - 8:00 pm and begins in the outdoor amphitheater behind the Forum.  CT’s Open House runs from 7:00 - 8:30 pm and begins in the quad.  There should be plenty of time to see your child’s current classroom and get a sneak peek in for the year ahead.  It will be a festive evening and we hope you will be there. The lower baseball field will be available for parking.

    The Band is Back Together!

Loma’s Open House will include the premier public performance of our newly reconstituted band!  Please be ready to enjoy the show which will be part of our opening ceremonies beginning at 6:30. Trust me, you don’t want to miss it! This fledgling group began in the spring semester and our musicians are excitedly nervous to show off their new skills.

    Parents of Incoming 6th Graders

Your students toured CT today and got to meet many of their new peers coming from outside the district. You are invited to a brief overview of 6th grade designed for parents (students welcome) on Thursday evening before Open House.  The program will begin at 6pm and offer you a preview of the grade classrooms before CT’s event beings. Please join us in the gym at 6pm. Students involved in band, will be going to join Ms. Lelake at 6:30ish for the band premier, but there will be plenty of time later for them to tour the CT classrooms.

    Hicklebee’s Book Fair

The Loma Home and School Club is excited to announce the return of our Hicklebee’s Book Fair Tuesday, May 23-Thursday May 25. What a wonderful time to get ready for reading this summer.  Hicklebee's is an award-winning independent children’s bookstore in Willow Glen, co-owned by Valerie Lewis, CT grandparent and author.  Hicklebee’s will have many of their wonderful books available for K-8.

A portion of all sales will go to the Loma Home and School club.  Come find us in the PE Portable between Loma & CT.  Information on when you can purchase is noted on the attached flyer.  Please find time in your schedule to help with the book sale.  Sign-up to help at: htTp://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0c45aea928a6f94-hicklebees

Get Your Game On!  Mr. Arias Camp

Formerly known as Mr. Arias’ BAWSI camp, this summer experience is back on the mountain.  All kids entering grades 1-9 are invited to join Mr. Arias and his crew for a half day of activities, positive messages, team work, and developmentally appropriate games by age group.  Don’t forget and miss the signups for this great camp back by popular demand.  If your child is not yet a CT’er or if your CT student wants more “Mr. Arias time”, this summer kids can get their game on and you can get some free time knowing that your kids are local and with a great mentor.

Online Student Records Coming Soon to an Elementary School Near You!

We are very excited to be moving to an online student records system that will allow parents to update information online as needed.  One of the goals of this effort is to reduce the number of forms you have to fill out every year.  We also are working to have a means to update urgent contact information easily throughout the year.

The first step in the process for Loma families is to have parents self-enroll in our PowerSchool portal.  Middle school families have been using this tool successfully for years, and now Loma will be joining in the electronic records system.  The records available for Loma families will include demographics (which includes our urgent contact info) and attendance.  We are working towards all fields being accessible for parent updates, and this is a first step.

You should have received, via USPS, a set of directions, user id, and temporary password to create your account.  It is very important that you complete your registration by May 26th so that we can enroll your child in their next year’s grade.

Thank you for your partnership in moving us to a fully digital solution for student information and registration.

Last Call – An invitation to 5th and 8th grade parents

We have begun our graduation prep.  Please start looking for 3-5 digital photos of your kids that you would like included in our pre-graduation slide shows.  The photos can be of any age, at school, home, anywhere.  Our slide show plays before the graduations begin.  Please send the fifth grade photos to Christine Taylor at Christine@freshideasdesign.com and the eighth grade photos to me at c.kidwell@loma.k12.ca.us for inclusion in the showcase.  If you have cute photos of groups of kids, I would love to have a few extra of those.  The NEW deadline for submission is May 30.

    Sincerely,

    Corey Kidwell

    Superintendent/Principal
