    Thoughts from Tuesday Night

Dear Loma and CT Parents and Guardians:

Thoughts from Tuesday Night – Music Changes Everything!

The band, the recorders, and the ukulele players stole the show!  Open House was lovely as we have come to expect from our amazing teachers, and the addition of our emerging music program was a game changer.  That was fun on a whole different level!  A long time Loma/CT parent stopped me outside to say, “Every now and then something changes everything and the schools go to an entirely new level.  Corey, that just happened!”  She was right.  The music changed everything!  In my wildest dreams when Ms. Lelake and I envisioned “putting the band back together,” I never imagined such a powerful impact in one year.  Our band is huge!  Our kids are playing great for beginners.  The middle school kids are rockin!  The energy is transformational.  Anyone who caught the premier performance of the Loma Band and the CT Players knows exactly what happened, and I don’t think any of us really saw it coming.  Thank you Ms. Lelake and Loma and CT musicians, parents, and LPEF donors.  You made this happen!

Now, we need everyone to help us push through “Tier Three” to make sure the band plays on!  There are only 7 days of school left, and time is slipping by to secure funding for our final push for next year’s programs.  If you found your toes tapping and yourself signing along, and you haven’t yet given to the KEEP Campaign, please give.  Music and Art and Loma Science and Tech for Teachers are all in the final two tiers.  Please help us secure another great year this fall.  There is no other funding source for “extras” even though we all know that music, and art, hands-on science, and instructional technology should not be “extra.”  That is the reality.  It won’t happen without all of us doing what we can.

Please join me, and the 51 families who have given to KEEP – you read that correctly 51 out of 300 – to make sure that all our kids have access to transformational programs.  We need you now.  Your kids need you now.  The future absolutely depends on reaching the goal.  Be part of the future!  Be part of the beat that KEEPs the band back together!  Thank you so much to the 51 families who have given already.  Your investment of any size will make a difference – I promise (and be tax deductible).  Please click here to learn how to give: http://www.lpef.org/keep

    Thank you!

Get Your Game On!  Mr. Arias Camp

Formerly known as Mr. Arias’ BAWSI camp, this summer experience is back on the mountain.  All kids entering grades 1-9 are invited to join Mr. Arias and his crew for a half day of activities, positive messages, team work, and developmentally appropriate games by age group.  Don’t forget and miss the signups for this great camp back by popular demand.  If your child is not yet a CT’er or if your CT student wants more “Mr. Arias time”, this summer kids can get their game on and you can get some free time knowing that your kids are local and with a great mentor.

Online Student Records Coming Soon to an Elementary School Near You!

We are very excited to be moving to an online student records system that will allow parents to update information online as needed.  One of the goals of this effort is to reduce the number of forms you have to fill out every year.  We also are working to have a means to update urgent contact information easily throughout the year.

The first step in the process for Loma families is to have parents self-enroll in our PowerSchool portal.  Middle school families have been using this tool successfully for years, and now Loma will be joining in the electronic records system.  The records available for Loma families will include demographics (which includes our urgent contact info) and attendance.  We are working towards all fields being accessible for parent updates, and this is a first step.

You should have received, via USPS, a set of directions, user id, and temporary password to create your account.  It is very important that you complete your registration by May 26th so that we can enroll your child in their next year’s grade.

Thank you for your partnership in moving us to a fully digital solution for student information and registration.

Want Help Getting Your LGHS Student to School?

We’ve got a bus!  This year we launched a morning bus route to LGHS which was very popular.  We are hoping to continue sending one of our buses to the high school again in the fall.  If you are interested in having your student ride along, please contract Patty Smrt at p.smrt@loma.k12.ca.us.

We need enough rides to continue the service.  It’s a safe, sane way to get your kids to school on time without you having to drive a carpool!

We hope to hear from you asap!
