Welcome to Ms. Benson's K/1 Combination Class!
The new school year is about to begin, and I can't wait to meet all my new students! This year is particularly exciting because our classroom will be a combination Kindergarten and First Grade classroom! A combination class provides a great opportunity for all students to learn how to be leaders as well as members of a diverse team.
In the first few days, first graders will have the opportunity to learn the classroom routines and procedures that will establish a calm and respectful learning environment this year. Next week, first graders will get to model leadership behavior as we welcome Kindergarteners to our classroom. Ms. Ray, Mrs. Templeton and myself will be working together in the coming days to determine which Kindergarten students would be the best fit for a combination classroom.
School starts on Thursday, August 15th, at 8:20am, with early dismissal at 12:30pmHere are some general guidelines for the first day of school:-On the first day of school our class will only be the first graders. Kindergarteners will join us next week.-Parents are welcome to enter the classroom with their child when school starts at 8:20, and remain until 8:30am. At 8:30 I will ring the bell and parents can say goodbye to their first graders, and we will begin our day together in room 9.-When you arrive, please help your child hang up their backpack, put their lunchbox into the bin, and come inside to find their seat. At their desk, there will be a packet of materials. Fill out the pick up forms so that I know how your child will be getting home after school. The rest you can take home with you to complete and return to me next week.-Please send a healthy snack, lunch, and water bottle with your child every day. Remember that we are a peanut-free school, so nothing with peanuts is permitted.-For parent-pick-up, I will walk first-graders to the first grade line inside of the chain link fence facing the parking lot. Parents can come on foot to pick up their child, or you can wait in the car line until you are directed to pull forward to the pick-up curb, where children can load into cars once parked.-If the plan changes during the day, call Raquel in the front office:408-353-1106.-Every Wednesday we have early dismissal at 1:30pm.You can subscribe to my webpage, and you will receive notification when I post new announcements, information about special events and field trips, and update the class blog.Subscribe to receive notifications and announcements!
