First graders are expected to read ten to twenty minutes per night with an adult. Each Monday I send home four books that are at your child's reading level. Please sit with them as they read these books to you. After reading a book, you should discuss it together. Conversations can go many directions, but here are some questions to get you started:
What was your favorite part of the book, and why?
Tell me what happened in this book.
What is the main character like?
Would you like to be the main character's friend? Why or why not?
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
How can you tell this is a non-fiction?
What facts did you learn in this book?
Why do you think the author wrote this book?
What questions do you have now?
