Dear CT and Loma Parents and Guardians:

    Thoughts from Tuesday Night

One of the things I often hear from new families transferring to Loma, and from many who leave and miss “the mountain,” is that we have something special in our schools.  I am proud that a culture of kindness is part of what sets us apart.  Kids always talk about the difference in our schools: that it is “cool” to be nice, that kids are happy to make new friends, and that teachers and staff really care about every kid.

I also know that the culture of friendliness and inclusion begins at home.  I still remember how welcomed my family felt meeting our neighbors, how enthusiastically we were welcomed into the school community, and how quick everyone was to share the unwritten “secrets to success” to life in the mountains.  You are powerful teachers and we appreciate the family values you model for your kids.  It takes a mountain!

We are excited to announce that we are participating in The 2018 Great Kindness Challenge where we will join thousands of schools across the country to create a culture of kindness.  Your child is part of a powerful and positive bullying prevention initiative that will lead to more kindness, unity and respect at school and beyond.  This effort will build upon the momentum we experienced from the unifying service project for hurricane relief in the fall.

Our efforts will begin in February and run through March – and hopefully beyond.  Today, I am inviting each family to start the conversation at home.  The Great Kindness Challenge includes a family component.  The “Family Edition” is included here today.  Please take a look at the list, include your kids in a conversation about what it means to be kind in your family, and help us set up our challenge for a great kick off!  Stay tuned for more details!

    Sincerely,
