    Dear Loma and CT Families:

    Thoughts from Tuesday Night

Don’t forget to vote! Mail in your ballot or go to your polling place on June 5th.

    Safe Fun in the Sun!

We love the sun!  Warm and beautiful days are upon us.  Behind that beauty is a cause of our most common cancer – skin cancer.  The easiest way to reduce future risk is to prevent sunburns and limit exposure to UV rays in childhood.  Skin cancer rates have increased dramatically over time. Half of the UV ray exposure we receive in a lifetime comes during childhood.

Yes, we want our kids to go outside and play.  Let’s support their sun safety!

Protecting kids from over exposure is not too difficult.  Hang out in the shade. Longer clothing provides better protection.  Encourage wearing protective hats and sunglasses.  Apply sunscreen over and over again!  For more information on skin cancers and protecting your kids, please see the information from the CDC.

As in all things with parenting, our actions today make a difference down the road. Looking for more fun in the sun? See below.

    The Nuts and Bolts Season

Graduation/Promotion Attire – It is the time of year when families are choosing promotion/graduation attire for their 5th and 8th grade students.  We always get many questions about the “dress code” for these events.  The bottom line is that these are elementary and middle school events and school dress code is enforced.  No strapless dresses or spaghetti straps without a wrap, shawl or shrug that must remain on.  Shoes must be appropriate for the procession and climbing stairs.  Dress or skirt length must be comfortable to be worn on an elevated stage.  Students generally do dress up a little.  Young men’s shirts should be tucked in or look neat.  Ties are not required.  No low rider pants.  Our events are above a casual level but nowhere near formal.  We want students to be able to participate in the movement associated with the events and not risk embarrassment.  A good rule of thumb is that if you can’t wear it to school, don’t wear it to graduation.  If you have questions, please feel free to ask.

Loma 5th Grade Promotion begins promptly at 8:45 a.m. The slide show plays before the ceremony. Parking will be at a premium. Please plan to come early.

CT 8th Grade Graduation begins promptly at 4:00 p.m. The slide show plays before the ceremony, so come early since parking will be at a premium. To access the gym, use the door closest to the Loma flagpole. There are blue signs on the construction fencing to help guide you. An alternate entrance is available near the grass on the back side of the gym. To reach this entrance, you would go through the CT courtyard, around the construction fencing and follow the pathway to the double doors that open onto the grass. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we are glad that construction is underway. Thanks for your patience!

    CT Lost & Found

I hate to say it but the CT lost & found is outta control! Please, please come look through the huge amount of items your students have left behind.

All items will be displayed on the chainlink fencing by CT starting on Monday June 4, after June 7th they will be donated.

The lost & found is currently located by the library.

    6th grade Parents

Please read the important attached letter about required immunizations for 7th grade!

Please note all incoming 7th graders must have a Tdap booster (ADACEL). This is different from a Dtap. Please look at current immunization records and if your student has received the Tdap booster after their 10th birthday please send the CT office a copy ASAP or check with the office to see if we already have your copy. If we do not have a copy of the current Tdap your student will not be allowed to attend school in the fall.

    7th grade Parents

Please sign your 7th grade student up early for the Washington DC trip! If you sign up before June 6th not only will you have a longer window to pay for the trip and do fund raising, but you will save money. After June 6th the cost of the trip will go up. Right now all you need to do is get online and pay the $49 deposit. Attached you will find a copy of the flyer with info for early sign up. Please feel free to contact me in the CT office or at Open House for a DC packet or questions you may have about the trip.

    8th Grade Parents

Your 8th grade student received a permission slip for the SC Beach Boardwalk trip on June 6th. Please note that students will not return to CT until 5pm and must be picked up at school at 5pm.
