    Dear Families,

Welcome Back! I am so excited to begin my first year as principal here on this beautiful mountain! Walking around both campuses over the past few days, I have been struck by just how similar we all experience the first week of school. From the Loma playgrounds to the CT courtyard and into the teacher’s lounges, there has been a tangible feeling of exhilaration, with a sprinkling of anxiety. The beginning of a new school year brings us back together as a community: seeing familiar faces, making new friends, and meeting new teachers.

The promise of a new school year is vast. It is the perfect opportunity to set out new goals, establish good habits, and revisit the commitments we have made in previous years. As parents, the beginning of the school year is our chance to establish some of the routines we have let go over the summer and introduce new ones. In my house, we have started going to bed earlier. My poor kids wonder why it is still light out and they are in bed! We have also begun enforcing our new house rule of no iPads in the bedrooms. I’d love to hear how you are using this new beginning to benefit your child and family.

    And now for my…

Top Three Moments of the Week

    1. 6th graders in an absolute sprint to their first class in middle school.
    2. A group of 5th grade girls in a spontaneous group hug after seeing each other for the first time this year.
    3. Ms. Templeton leading her adorable group of kinders on a stroll around the track—I can’t help but be reminded of the book Make Way For Duckling!

Details, Details, Details – Action Required

To do list: Returning families, please take a moment to click here and print out the Response Form reflecting your review of the annual “Parents/Students Rights” (in English/in Spanish) document. You and your child/ren need to sign the two page Response Form in multiple places. Your child needs this signed in order to log on to computers, ride the bus to school or on field trips, and much more. These forms are due to your child’s Loma teachers by September 5th. CT English Middle School students who are returning to our district will need to turn in a response form by this Friday or they will not be allowed to attend Beach Day next Friday 8/31/18. Please have your student turn their response forms into the bin on the counter, in the CT office. If you cannot print out a form feel free to have your student get a hard copy from the office.

Log on: All families! If you have not yet, please log on to PowerSchool, and update your emergency information. Please do so this week!

Morning drop off: Thank you for pulling ALL the way forward at the drop off curb. Filling up the curb all the way forward allows us to get more kids to class on time. Thank you!

    Construction Update

We have had great progress with the replacement buildings wing A and wing B. On Wednesday 8/15 196 yards of concrete was placed in wing A and on Monday 8/20 214 yards of concrete was placed in wing B with a complete total of 415 yards of concrete for both wings. To accomplish this it took 52 concrete trucks to deliver 8 yards of concrete each. The concrete has cured enough to start the framing of wing A, which is currently 25% framed and scheduled to be walled up by 8/31/18. Wing B will follow right behind wing A and is being plated to be ready for framing to start once the concrete has cured enough. The first phase of work in the gym was completed just before school started and gym activities are not impacted by the construction.
