Dear Loma and CT Families,
My kids are always accusing me of “bragging” about our schools. I will admit I do love to talk about our amazing students, teachers, and community whenever I get the chance. One thing I often share is just what a culture of avid readers we have on this mountain. The love of reading is something we share across both campuses. Each day at CT, everyone from teachers to students to our school secretary, take time to put aside all other commitments and read a book for pleasure. Loma’s teachers read aloud from favorite novels while students eat their lunches. At the heart of these practices is the message that reading is important and entertaining.
This message is further emphasized through the importance that our community has placed on keeping our libraries open and thriving, even during times of extreme budget restrictions. LPEF Fundraising has allowed us to have three days of library with Ms. Fichthorn at Loma and Ms. Ammirati at CT. Volunteers have also helped to run our Scholastic Book Fairs that provide new books to the libraries. To learn more about the library program look under the “programs” tab on the school’s web page.
One of my favorite children’s authors, Dr. Seuss wrote, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” By this token, our kids are definitely going places!
Top Three Moments of the Week
- Listening to the school sing “Boom Chicka Boom” in the voice of opera stars with Ms. Riccomini at the Friday assembly.
- Reading David Goes To School with Ms. Benson’s first graders and discussing our school rules.
- Feeling the excitement in the air as the CT kids loaded the buses for beach day. So many boogie boards, so little time!
Our reconstruction project is continuously moving forward. Wing A has a 100% of its exterior walls and is 50% sheered up. The interior walls have started to be built as well and the roof frame is scheduled to start Friday afternoon. Wing B has 100% of its exterior walls framed and once Wing A is sheered up, the framers will move right to Wing B and sheer it up. As the framing continues, Granite Construction will start well drilling 32 piers for the covered walkway and canopy. Concrete pouring is scheduled for Friday, September 7th.
