    Dear Loma and CT Families,

Welcome to October! Below are some of the great things that are going on this week at our schools and in the community. Hope to see many of you at the Gala this Saturday!

Top Three Moments of the Week

    1. Helping out Ms. Bowen’s Bears with Art in Action. They did awesome abstract art collages in the style of Paul Klee.
    2. Hearing all the fabulous qualities of September’s Citizens of the Month at Loma. Responsible, kind, and determined were some of my favorite attributes cited.
    3. Watching Coach Patino’s “Lunch Bunch” play their first game of flag football. I was impressed by the great sportsmanship our young players showed.

Project Cornerstone’s Book of the Month

This month our Project Cornerstone Readers at Loma are headed into the classrooms with the book, Simon’s Hook by Karen Gedig Burnett. In this book, Simon is teased because he’s having a “bad hair day.” Students are asked to think about the ways to respond to teasing, and offered several examples of ways that kids can empower themselves and avoid becoming a victim of someone else’s hurtful behavior. To learn more about Simon’s Hook, you can visit Grandma Rose’s website at www.grandmarose.com.

    Construction Corner

Our reconstruction project is continually moving forward. The windows are to arrive on 10/4/18 and will be stored on site until they are ready for installation in Wing A. Wing A’s structural inspection passed with flying colors and the contractor will be shifting to Wing B. Wing B’s interior walls are framed and the roof frame is expected to start on 10/5/18.

When buildings such as these are getting erected, there are numerous inspections that take place. One of these inspections is a concrete pounds per square inch (psi) strength test, where a machine crushes the samples and records the psi. The concrete design strength for this project is 4000 psi at a standard 28 psi cure. We have the results for the 28 psi crush test from the samples we took during the concrete pour 8/15. Wing A’s psi strength test had a crush test result at 6240 psi and Wing B’s psi strength test had a crush test result at 5530 psi, which shows that both wings over exceed the concrete strength design for the project.

    Thank you,
