    Dear Loma Families,

Wow!  The Gala was amazing this year!  From the music, to the food, to the beautiful Maison du Lac venue, everything came together to make for a wonderful evening. Corey Kidwell coined my favorite phrase, “It takes a mountain,” and it certainly took a mountain of hardworking volunteers to put together the Gala.  I want to extend a gigantic “THANK YOU” to the LPEF board, all the incredible volunteers, and the generous donors who helped support our schools through this memorable event.  Our kids are so lucky to be growing up on this mountain where their community values and supports an education that is full and well rounded.

My Top Three Moments of the Week

    1. Seeing everyone all dressed up at the Gala! There are certainly some fancy masks out there!
    2. The tangible excitement of the 5thgraders, all in matching tie-dyed shirts, as they loaded the bus for Pigeon Point. I’m sure they are going to have an awesome trip! (see photo)
    3. Happening upon Ms. O’Dea’s 8thgrade art sculptures. The theme was “refuge” and they are incredible! (see photo)

    Have a great week!

Important CASA of Los Gatos Event Tomorrow!

The topic of the evening will be Juuling, Vaping and Substance Abuse Use & Prevention for our Teens. Whether you have immediate concerns or not – it is vitally important to be aware of what children in our community are being exposed to! The topic of vaping among teens is new to most of us and comes with a lot of mis-information and questions. The head of the US Food and Drug Administration recently announced they are taking aim at Juul and other e-cigarette manufacturers, warning that they must show how they’ll keep the devices out of the hands of young people. They noted an “epidemic” surge in teen use of e-cigarettes. Only 3 days ago, the FDA conducted a surprise inspection of Juul Labs in San Francisco and is reported to have seized more than 1,000 documents from their facility. If you’re interested in learning more about the topic of Juuls and Vaping in Los Gatos, please join us for this important discussion! Here are the details:

    Paul’s Construction Corner

Our reconstruction project is continuously moving forward. Wing A’s roof sheeting has been inspected and signed off, the roofing shingles have been ordered and the contractor is expecting to begin installation on 10/24. The window package has arrived on site and the installation will begin with Wing A once the flashing is delivered. Wing B’s roof frame has begun and is scheduled to be finished by the end of this week. The canopy that will run along the front of the two buildings and into the entry of the gym is scheduled to begin 10/16. We now are currently 166 days into construction and have had zero injuring during this project.
