November 7, 2018
Dear Loma Families,
I can’t decide what I am more excited about as I see the construction on the new buildings progress: having a beautiful new facility OR getting back some parking spots! Our parking lot will never be large enough, but with the construction taking up part of the lot and the necessity of sharing the gravel lot with the construction team, things are pretty tight out there. I would like to remind everyone to practice patience and respect in the parking lot.
- Drive very SLOWLY in the parking lot.
- Stop at the crosswalk, so kids and families can safely cross.
- Remember to only pick-up and drop-off kids in the designated areas.
- When you are in the gravel lot, park in such a manner that others will be able to get safely in and out of their parking spaces.
- If you park on the north campus side of the road, please watch for Building Blocks Preschool families and use the pedestrian bridge to move to the south campus.
My Top Three Moments of the Week
1.Being inspired by our 5th grade student council candidate’s speeches. Some of their great ideas included: having buddies at CT, filling in the gopher holes on the field, and decorating the forum for special holidays.
2.Helping our Loma kids vote for their candidates for student council (grades 3-5), and their favorite animal (grades K-2) in our school election. Dog was the big winner for favorite animal!
3. Finding out that CT’s Wrestling Team won the Graveyard Grapplers Tournament!
Congratulations to the team!
CT Parents – Report Cards
Report cards will be distributed to students this Friday, November 9. Don’t forget to ask your child for their report card.
Loma Parents – Parent-Teacher Conferences– Early Dismissal
You should have already received your parent conference date and time for your Loma child(ren). Conferences run Friday through Friday (11/9-11/16) with Loma only dismissing at 12:30 each day. Please remember to pack plentiful snacks as there will be no lunch period all week. The campus is closed until 4:00 pm so that conferences can occur without distraction. These conferences are extremely important opportunities for you to get feedback on your child’s progress and successes. Teachers will be interested in hearing from you how the year has begun for your child. As a convenience, teachers have worked to schedule sibling conferences close to one another to alleviate multiple trips to school for parents. Also, please know that conferences are 20 minutes each. Your respecting the time allowed is appreciated by the teacher and the parents who are scheduled after you. Of course, you can always ask for additional meeting time after parent conference week. It is helpful if you have your questions ready ahead of time. Your child’s teacher will go over the first trimester report card with you and share their first term insights. Thank you in advance for your partnership in building a solid educational foundation for your child at Loma Prieta.

Karren Zook, Principal
Paul’s Construction Corner
Our reconstruction project is continuously moving forward. Wing A’s roof is completed and water tight. The fire sprinkler system is also completed and the contractor is shifting to Wing B this week. The rough framing, plumbing, and electrical inspection is completed and the contractors have started to get the sheetrock installed so that it won’t conflict with other work that still needs to be done. The posts for the canopy that will run along the front of the two buildings and into the entry of the gym have been corrected by the manufacturer and the canopy is expected to be completely framed by 11/8. Wing B’s roof is expected to be completed by early next week. The stucco contractor is scheduled to begin lathing Wing B on 11/12. The 1st phase of finish concrete is scheduled to be poured 11/14 and will focus on the area between Wing B and the gym. We now are currently 194 days into construction and have had zero injuries during this project.
Taste Nutrition – If you did not cancel hot lunch from Taste Nutrition for this coming Friday, 11/9, they will either refund you the dollar amount or they will donate it back to the school. Contact them at TasteNutrition.com and let them know how you would like this to be handled.
