January 9, 2019
Dear Loma Families:
Welcome back! I hope you all had a great holiday with friends and family. It has been so fun getting to catch up with the kids as they return to school. It sounds like there was a lot of traveling, snow play, and new toys enjoyed over the past two weeks. I’m looking forward to an awesome 2019!
My Top Three Moments of the Week
- Welcoming back students on Monday morning.I love all those smiles and hugs.
- Hearing about travel adventures from a group of six-year olds. They sure have a more optimistic view of the airport than I do!
- Dancing and hula-hooping during rainy day recess with a fun and rambunctious group of Loma kiddos.

Paul’s Construction Update
Our reconstruction project is continuously moving forward. The equipment and appliances for the kitchen have been delivered and are being installed. The first Health Department inspections is scheduled for 1/21. The finishing fixtures for the plumbing have arrived, they are being sorted and stacked in the appropriate rooms and ready for installation. The demolition and replacement of the concrete that is in front of C.T. English was successful and was completed on 1/4 before students returned from winter break without affecting access to the school. The concrete curb on the North-West side is being formed and will tie into the completed concrete curb in front of C.T. English. The concrete is scheduled to be poured 1/10, weather permitting. The buildings are now ready to be painted and will be done as weather permits. We have ramped up on man power as we continue to work towards our targeted temporary occupancy date of 2/18 for the art and music room.
The portables in the parking lot are scheduled to be removed 2/22. After the portables are removed, phase 3 of the project will begin. Phase 3 is to create the new parking area and bus drop off route. This work will impact the traffic for both C.T. English and Loma. The district and contractors appreciate your patience as we try to move quickly as possible through this portion of the project.
We are now currently 251 days into construction and have had zero injuries during this project and no lost day’s work due to adverse weather. Even though we have experienced weather, the contractors, project management team, and the district have been able to keep the work moving forward by looking ahead and staying flexible to any situation.
