Dear Loma and CT Families,
Flu Season is in Full Force
It has yet to hit our schools, but from what I have heard this is going to be a vicious flu season! Please help us by reinforcing with your kids the importance of staying healthy. That is our best defense. If you have not already done so, please consider getting a flu shot. It’s not too late though it does take a full two weeks for best protection. The vaccine is not perfect, but it’s a tool.
The CDC also recommends "everyday preventive actions (like staying away from people who are sick, covering coughs and sneezes and frequent hand washing) to help slow the spread of germs that cause respiratory (nose, throat, and lungs) illnesses, like flu." Our teaching staff has gone through state required extra training in order to use sanitizing wipes in their classrooms. We are reminding students about cough and sneeze etiquette and frequent hand washing. We also need your help to keep you kids home when they are sick.
If you have flu in your family, please err on the side of caution and keep your kids home if they show ANY signs of emerging illness. People can pass on the flu before they know they are sick, as well as while they are sick. We will send students home for observation if they begin to appear ill. If your child has a fever, they must remain out of school for at least 24 hours after the fever breaks. There is nothing so important at school that is worth risking your child’s health or the health of those around them. Please help us limit the spread of the flu.
My Top Three Moments of the Week
- Lots of kudos to the entire Loma student body for being respectful, calm, and alert during our rainy day pick-up.
- Enjoying hearing about the many fascinating Science Faire Projects that are in the works at CT.
- Watching the exciting Spelling Bee Finals at Loma. Congratulations to Peter Potts (1st place), Payton Steffen (2nd place) and Jordan Daniher!

Paul’s Construction Update
Our reconstruction project is continuously moving forward. The equipment and appliances for the kitchen were delivered and are installed. The first of the Health Departments inspections is scheduled for 1/24. The finishing fixtures for the plumbing have arrived and are getting installed. The concrete curb on the North-East side has begun to be formed and will tie into the completed concrete curb in front of Wing B. This concrete is scheduled to be poured on 1/18, weather permitting. The HVAC units have been installed and converted to propane. They will begin heating the rooms on 1/18. Once the temperature is controlled in the buildings, the tack boards and flooring can be installed as the installation components are temperature sensitive.
The buildings are ready to be painted, if weather permits it. We are currently right on schedule to gain temporary occupancy on 2/18 for the art and music rooms. The portables in the parking lot have been scheduled to be removed on 2/22. After the portables are removed Phase 3 of the project can begin. This will create the new parking area and bus drop off routes. This work will temporarily impact the traffic for both C.T. English and Loma Prieta due to having to close off a portion of the parking lot. The district and contractors appreciate your patience as we try to move as quickly as possible through this portion of the project.
We are 258 days into construction and have had zero injuries during this project and no lost day’s due to adverse weather. Even though we have experienced over 10 inches of rain and wind gusts up to 60 mph, the contractors, project management team, and the district have been able to keep this project moving forward by looking ahead and staying flexible to any situation.

Open Enrollment: Los Gatos – Saratoga Union High School District
Each year, the Los Gatos – Saratoga Union High School District seeks to provide enrollment options for students who live within our attendance area, specifically through our open enrollment process. Open enrollment allows a student who resides within the attendance area of one of our district high schools the opportunity to apply for a transfer to the other high school.
You are receiving this email because you and your student reside within the Los Gatos High School attendance area and may be considering applying for an intra-district transfer to Saratoga High School through our open enrollment process.
Registration at your home school is required prior to completing the transfer request. Please contact the school registrar at your home school, Terri Dewing at 408-354-2730, x-231, to enroll your student online, providing proof of residency and to learn about special events and parent nights relevant to your student.
Should you be interested, please review the attached information outlining the process and note the following:
- Applications are available on the LGSUHSD website or at the LGSUHSD District office at 17421 Farley Road West, Los Gatos between January 22, 2019 and February 8, 2019.
- Completed applications must be turned in to the LGSUHSD District office at 17421 Farley Road West by February 8, 2019 (no later than 4:00 p.m.).
- Only a limited number of spaces will be available. This number is based on enrollment and school capacity.
- Should the number of applications exceed the space available, a random selection process will be used.
- Students whose transfers are not approved through the random process will be placed on a waiting list.
If, after reading the attachment, you have additional questions, please contact the Student Services Division at (408) 402-6323.
News from our Home & School Clubs
Dear Loma and C.T. Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to announce that the Loma and C.T. HSCs in partnership with LPJU School District, have identified and are in the process of piloting a new hot lunch program for our kids via Choice Lunch!
It will be quite an improvement to past programs at Loma and offer the consistency at C.T. that the parents and students grew to count on.
Please click on flyer provided below for a high level summary on how we plan to implement this program, and check out their website https://www.choicelunch.com/ for all the available options and to see how it all works.
PLEASE NOTE: Last date of service for Taste Nutrition at Loma is Jan 11th & will be replaced with Choice Lunch option. There will be a notification once the Choice Lunch system is live for orders.
