December 4, 2019
Dear Loma and CT Families,
My Top 3 Moments of the Week...
- Talking with kids about their fun Thanksgiving adventures!
- Working with our CT Leo’s Club and Loma Student Council to make signs for our Second Harvest Canned Food Drive. It was great to see our students working “across the parking lot” for a good cause!
- Reading about all the ways Mrs. Van Zante’s students spread kindness. Check out their bulletin board in the Loma office this month.
Holiday Food Drive
The Loma Student Council and the C.T. English Leo’s Club have joined forces this year to help people in need. They will be running a food drive through the Second Harvest Food bank. Please consider sending to school any non-perishable food items you would like to donate. The most requested items are canned tuna, peanut butter, canned soup, canned chili, canned beans, canned fruits or vegetables, sealed bags of pasta or whole grain rice, and oats. The food drive will run through December 18th.
Loma Spelling Bee
Loma Prieta students are ramping up to participate in the 2019 Scripps National Spelling Bee. Many of our students have been working through this year’s word lists and are getting ready for some stiff competition. Each class in grades 1 through 5 will hold a mini-spelling bee on the road to the semi-finals. Our top two spellers in each class will be invited to participate in the Spelling Bee Semi-Finals on Wednesday, December 18th at 12:30pm in the Loma Forum. The final round will take place on Wednesday, January 15th, at 12:30pm. We are proud to send this year’s winner to the next level in the Scripps competition. For more information check out our school website: https://www.loma.k12.ca.us/domain/128
CT Wreaths at the Craft Faire
Once again, our 8th graders will be selling wreaths at the Holiday Craft Faire this weekend. Please come and show your support by buying a wreath. See the order form/flyer attached for more information or to order a wreath prior to the Craft Faire.
Sincerely,
Karren Zook, Principal

Lost and Found
The Loma Lost and Found is overflowing!! If you’re coming to volunteer, drop off or picking up your student/s, please stop by the front office and claim what’s yours. The Goodwill truck will be here next weekend and whatever is left will be donated.
Goodwill Truck is Back December 14th and 15th
You know what that means! Clear out your closets, your garage and storage units of unwanted items (no garbage, please). The Goodwill Truck Fundraiser was a huge success in August bringing in just over $4,100. Let’s make this the best one yet. Bring your stuff and help us raise money.
If any students need community service hours, here is your chance! Sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e044fa5ac2ea0f94-december. We will need both students as well as some parent chaperones. Check out our needs in the link! We appreciate any time you can give, and it is a fun event to help at! Bring gloves if you’d like.
Holiday Faire is upon us!
This weekend December 7th (10:00 – 5:00) and December 8th (10:00 – 4:00)
