January 8, 2020
Dear Loma Families:
I have had so much fun catching up with the students as they returned to school. One observation the teachers and staff shared this week is how, when asked about the highlights of the break, the majority of our students remarked on the time they spent with family: trips to see grandparents, visits with younger cousins, watching movies with parents. This is heartwarming to me. It is a reminder that toys and video games, while fun, cannot replace the human connection that helps kids thrive. I’m going to try to keep this thought at the center of my work as we move into this new decade. Welcome to 2020!
My Top Three Moments of the Week
- Seeing the excitement of our 5th graders discovering that their rock candy experiments came to life in Ms. Ignoffo’s science class.
- Reading a story about a fox in the winter to Ms. Ray’s class! There is almost nothing I love more than reading to enthralled little learners.
- Catching up with my rejuvenated colleagues in the staff lounges. We are all ready for a productive and fun 2020!
The Bridge is Open!
The pedestrian bridge is now open! We will no longer have a crossing guard on Summit Road. Students must use the pedestrian bridge to cross Summit Road. As a reminder, students must have a note on file in the school office to cross the bridge without adult supervision.

Loma HSC News
Join Valley Sports Camp at their After School Multi-Sport Enrichment Class for boys and girls grades kindergarten through 5th grades. Classes will be held on Mondays and will begin next week January 13th. Our after school class introduces and practices character building traits, referred to as our 'Word of the Day', through a variety of age appropriate sports and games. In the hour class, the kids are introduced to a new trait each week (i.e., responsibility, teamwork, perseverance.) Then, kids play a few games while focusing on these traits. At the end of each hour, the kids gather with their coach and compliment/recognize anyone that they saw portraying the Word of the Day. One key element that sets our program apart from others, is our emphasis on ensuring all children are included. Games are not only age appropriate but allow children of all athleticism to feel successful.
