In Case You Missed It…My Letter Announcing the Move-A-Thon
As you may know, the Jog-a-thon is our school’s favorite event each year. I was so sad to think that our kids would miss the opportunity to exercise in support of our school, but never fear! Our amazing Loma Home and School Club has been working overtime to reinvent the Jog-a-thon, so that we can continue our treasured tradition while practicing social distancing. Get ready for the first ever, Loma Prieta Move-A-Thon!
Here is how the Move-A-Thon will work… Just like the Jog-A-Thon, kids will ask friends, family, and neighbors to sponsor them in the Move-A-Thon. Then, throughout the entire month of May, kids, with parent help, will track their exercise each day. Suggested activities include burpees, jump roping, running, planking, etc. There will be prizes for our top movers and earners. Please see the attached slides for more information and details on the specifics of the Move-A-Thon.
In addition to bringing the community together, the Jog-A-Thon is the top fundraiser for our Home and School Club. The money raised helps fund enrichment programs like Art, Garden, Music and the Library. The funds also support our teachers in purchasing supplies and doing special projects. Without these funds, we will be at risk of losing these critical programs.
Providing an opportunity for our kids to work together toward a shared goal has never been more important, not just financially for our school, but for the emotional well-being of our kids. The more we can create opportunities for connection, the stronger our school community will be. I encourage EVERYONE to participate, even if you are unable to get pledges.
I know our 5th graders are worried that they will not be able to get sprayed by the fire hose this year, a rite of passage for our students for the past 30+ years. Rest assured, we are looking at how to make this happen as soon as Shelter in Place is lifted.
The Home and School Club has set up a section of their Facebook page where kids can share their efforts with each other and cheer on their friends’ successes: https://www.facebook.com/LomaPrietaHSC/?ref=bookmarks Check out the Facebook site see a special and entertaining video! Spread the word!
Let’s make this a fun and successful event that will remind us all how much we can accomplish when we work together in support of the BEST SCHOOL AFTERALL!
Parents, please note that due to the COVID-19 school closure mandate, IEP progress reports may be delayed in being sent home because we have had limited access to the classroom. You can expect to receive a completed progress report that will be emailed directly to you by the case manager at the earliest opportunity.
School Closure Reminder
The Loma and CT school offices are closed. The District Office is staffed. If you need to visit the District Office, please call ahead to 408-353-1101 to schedule a time. Drop-ins are discouraged in accordance with the current shelter-in-place order.
Stay healthy and be well.
