February 10, 2021
Happy American Heart Month. In coordination with Valentine’s Day, we celebrate National Heart Health Awareness. February also rings in the Lunar New Year. Celebrations for Lunar New Year begin on February 12th and continue through February 26th. The new year will be the year of the Ox. The Ox is characterized as hard working, positive and honest. All admirable traits that have been vital during this past year.
Wishing you the best for a safe, happy, and Prosperous New Year!

Remote Learning Attendance Reminder
Please contact your school office for any of the following reasons during remote learning:
- Your child cannot log into class-email the teacher and the appropriate school office.
- Your child had technical issues or other issues that caused them to log into class late.
- Your child will be absent, at an appointment, or leaving class early.
Frequent absences from school are cause for concern. Students who miss just one or two days of school each month risk falling seriously behind. Being absent from school can lead to significant problems. Students who miss many days of school are more likely to fail classes, drop out from school, and have poor relationships with parents, teachers, and peers. Please remember that every absence matters. If you need support with your child’s attendance, please reach out to your child’s teacher or to Billy Martin. Thank you for supporting your child in their attendance at school.
HEALTH AND SAFETY RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS
Check out the Covid-19: Prepare, Prevent, Protect flyer and the Be Safe & Healthy with Potter the Otter Covid-19 safety guidebook. Both provide important safety practices necessary for returning to in-person learning.

NEWS AND UPDATES
Preparing for Hybrid Learning Q&A
What will the school hours be for in-person sessions?
Middle School: 8:30am-12:30pm
K-5 students will have a “cushioned” start to the day with the flexibility to arrive to school 8:30 to 8:50am. K-5 students will not be marked late unless their arrival is after 8:50am. This will give us the ability to have a slightly staggered start to K-5. Middle School students will not have this flexibility and will be marked tardy for arrival after 8:30am. Students who arrive late to school cannot enter their classroom until they have been screened by a staff member.
Should I get my child to school early when in-person learning begins?
No. There will not be a before school recess. All students, elementary and middle school, will go directly to their waiting spot outside their classroom. There will be marked spots, spaced 6 ft apart, for students to wait for their temperature checks and to be allowed into the classroom.
What if my child tests expectations, such as refusing to wear a mask or remaining 6 feet apart?
We are committed to providing a relevant education experience when school reopens. However, we recognize that we will be not be returning to school as “normal.” Things will be very different when we return to in-person learning and we fully understand that some students will test boundaries, expectations, and routines. We will carefully take into consideration the health and safety requirements of our in-person staff and learners and where necessary will follow these guidelines, for example with mask expectations:
- All families returning to in-person learning will review our health and safety agreements.
- First Offense: student counseling session and parent notification.
- Second Offense: a behavior plan will be created for the student, parent conference.
- Third Offense: student will be assigned to full distance learning.
SEL (SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING) AT HOME
Even when we are in “normal” school, social-emotional learning is an important part of a child’s wellbeing and often begins at home. Panorama has complied a small list of Social-Emotional Learning at Home resources for families to use. Check them out.
