What a great week on campus! We moved one step closer to “normal” school this week as we brought all K-5 students who wished to return to in-person learning to campus. Though not everything is normal and health, safety, and logistical issues keep some things from being normal, it is a great light at the end of the tunnel for what the future might look like.
Mother’s Day is this Sunday. To all the moms out there, I wish you the best Mother’s Day ever. This has certainly been a year that has tested patience, stamina and persistence. Thank you for all you do to support your families and children. Happy Mother’s Day.

CAASPP Testing Update
Each year in the Spring, our district provides the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) statewide assessments in English language arts and mathematics to students in grades 3-8. Recently, the California State Board of Education took steps to give California school districts the option of using the statewide assessments OR district-selected assessments for the 2020-2021 school year.
Our District has elected to use the iReady assessment platform in place of the statewide assessments for this school year. The benefits for using the iReady assessments instead of the statewide assessments this school year include:
- Alignment to Common Core standards.
- More flexibility in administering the assessments.
- Spring results rather than Fall results as is common with CAASPP.
- Actionable information to help inform instruction.
- Parents/Guardians with students in grades 3-8 will receive their child’s results.
There are many ways to measure student learning, and the Spring test is only one of them. It is not meant to tell the whole story, but when combined with other factors, like report card grades and teacher input, it will give families a more complete picture of their child’s performance.
Now that we have more students on campus each day, it is more important than ever that families complete the Daily Home Symptom Screening each morning before your child arrives on campus. Removing students from instruction to complete the screening on your behalf and conducting the follow-up communications to home when you do forget interrupts the learning of all students and ties up valuable and limited school resources.
Daily Home Symptom Screening
Applies to ALL GRADES and ALL STUDENTS K-8 WHO ARE LEARNING ON CAMPUS! TO BE DONE EACH MORNING THAT YOUR CHILD WILL BE ON CAMPUS FOR INPERSON INSTRUCTION PRIOR TO ARRIVAL ON CAMPUS!! REPEATED NEGLIGENCE IN COMPLETING THIS FORM COULD RESULT IN YOUR CHILD BEING PLACED IN DISTANCE LEARNING.
Each day that your child will be on campus for in-person instruction, parents and/or guardians will be required to complete a home symptom screening. This screening will be completed through PowerSchool. Follow the steps below to access the form via PowerSchool. If you have any login issues, please contact Julie Bourque.
- Login into your Parent Portal of PowerSchool
- Click on Forms in the left-hand navigation menu
- Select the 2021 In-Person COVID-19 Student Daily Check In
- Complete the form and submit
This symptom screening is open and must be completed by a parent/guardian prior to arriving on campus. If you are having difficulty accessing the form, please contact Julie Bourque for help and support. Students who arrive to campus without a completed Home Symptom Screening will be removed from class and a health screening will be conducted.
Daily Home Symptom Screening Tips & Tricks:
- Complete the form the morning of in-person instruction. Do not complete the form the night before.
- Do not use the PowerSchool mobile app. Access the form using an internet browser. You can access on your mobile device as long as it is via an internet browser and not the mobile app.
- If you have issues, try a different internet browser. Google Chrome has proven to be problematic with PowerSchool.
- Make sure you are logged into PowerSchool through the Parent Portal and not through the Student Portal.
- Use the link provided, Parent Portal of PowerSchool. Do not Google PowerSchool. It will direct you to an incorrect link.
School Attendance Reminder
State and Federal law require that school aged children be enrolled and attend a public, private, charter, or homeschool. If your child is enrolled but NOT attending or participating, they may be considered truant. If you are experiencing difficulty supporting your child’s attendance at school, reach out to school-there may be ways we can help.

Order your Loma Yearbook and submit your photos by May 20th
Yearbooks will be shipping after we have our Spring photos back, later than usual this year. This gives you more time to order and submit your photos.
We need more photos!! Please submit pictures of your kids during this year to our Google Photos Album. These can be first day of school, Zoom, sports, or any fun activities. With fewer activities on campus this year, it's especially important that we get photos from parents to fill out our yearbook.

KEEP your Cans and Bottles!
Do you have empty aluminum cans and plastic drink bottles? We’d love them!
Loma and CT parent and Youth Leader Lisa Sullivan is organizing a can and bottle drive from now through May 28th. Eligible cans and bottles can be dropped off to campus any day of the week for our families in the district, and also on Wednesdays for community members. These empty containers will then be taken to the recycling plant for the cash refund they provide.
What? – Empty aluminum cans and plastic drinks bottles (see attached flyer for specifics – NO glass please)
When? – Now through May 28th
Where? – Kids at Loma and CT can drop their items to the school curb as they are dropped off for school. Community members can drop the items to the bins outside the CT office any Wednesday between now and May 26th. (Please adhere to social distancing guidelines and wear a mask on campus).
Please note we cannot accept alcoholic beverage containers on campus, but Lisa will organize collection of these items if you have them. See contact details in the flyer.

Free One-On-One Math Tutoring K-8
Due to the great response from the community, The Mountain Math Initiative is pleased to announce additional services to support our kids. We are now able to add free scheduled one-on-one math and physics help for students that benefit from individualized tutoring. We have many dedicated Loma and CT alumni volunteers that would love to work with our community’s kids. If you are interested in setting up free one-on-one tutoring, specified to your child's needs, please reach out to the MMI Volunteer Coordinator, Marcella Jones, at firstname.lastname@example.org to be matched with a tutor. LG Recreation Summer Fun Academy
Different from the traditional summer school, LGS Recreation’s fee-based Summer Fun Academy is open to all student’s 1st-8th grade. The program provides students the opportunity to strengthen their academics and to get outside and play during the summer months through a wide range of challenging, engaging, and fun programs! This multi-week program with instructional tracks, similar to “periods” within a traditional school day. A cohort of 14 students will rotate together through a track consisting of 4 “periods” each day. Each “period” will run for 45 minutes. The goal of the program is to mix both enrichment and athletics programs into each track to give students a wide variety of exciting activities to participate in during the summer. Tracks have been designed to provide a variety of experiences for all students. Individual class periods are not interchangeable, and registration is for the full 4-part track. This protects student cohorts and for the safety of all children, class periods may not be prorated or exchanged. Please see the attached flyer.
