Thoughts from Tuesday Night
Standing in the Loma amphitheater last night for Loma’s Back-to-School-Night, I was reminded again just how lucky we are to live and learn in this community. The strong support of parents makes a small district like ours move from sustainable to vibrant. It is the parents who make it to Back-to-School, to awards assemblies, who volunteer in class or at Snack Shack, who chaperone field trips, dances and fun nights, help with homework, who sleep over for the star party or hike the Yosemite trails, mark laps for the Jog-a-Thon, come to the plays, and so much more that send an important signal to all our kids that school matters. Thank you for your commitment to your own kids’ education and the impressive commitment to our shared goal of great schools with big hearts.
There was a cheer from the crowd gathered when LPEF President, Joni Thomas, talked about the more than $300,000 raised by LPEF and the Home and School Clubs on behalf of our kids. An even bigger cheer went up when she could remind us all of the fact that those dollars are going to the “extras” like music, and Developmental PE, libraries, counseling, and enrichment opportunities. Your investments of time, energy, and donations for various fund raising events all combine to make our schools special for our kids. Some of you have been to many Back-to-School Night events. For some, it was your first of many. I want to welcome all of you back to your schools. It is going to be a great year, and your partnership will help make the magic happen. If you haven’t been to our websites, please add these https://www.loma.k12.ca.us/loma (for Loma) https://www.loma.k12.ca.us/cte (for CT) https://www.loma.k12.ca.us (for the District) to your bookmarks bar and check them often. Your child’s teacher(s) page(s) and the “For Parents” sections as are good places to start.
Many of our partners spoke last night too. In case you missed them or want to follow up, here are links to our trusted and valued school/community partner sites:

Speaking of “the magic”, Joni Thomas and her vast crew of volunteers spend countless hours arranging fundraisers that are truly “fun-raisers”! Please read her welcome letter below.
Dear Mountain Community,
Welcome back to school! As we look ahead to another exciting school year, I urge you to join us at our first two events.
Our first event is on Wednesday, August 26th, from 4-8pm. Testarossa’s Wine Bar 107 will donate 15% of the evening's participating sales to LPEF. Please visit our website www.lpef.org/winebar for more information on attending. It promises to be a lovely evening sipping wine and enjoying their beautiful outdoor patio.
It’s hard to believe, but our 15th Annual Gala is on October 3rd! Gala organization and planning started months ago and is building toward what promises to be a memorable evening. If you haven’t purchased tickets yet, don’t delay as seating is limited and The Gala typically sells out several weeks in advance. Tickets can be purchased at www.lpef.org/gala.
I’d like to extend a special invitation to families that are new to our schools and those few who haven’t attended our events before. Wine Bar 107 is a new event and one that we hope will become a longstanding tradition at our school. Our Gala is a night of elegance, fun, dining and dancing, and both the unofficial and official start to so much that revolves around our schools. We sincerely hope to see you at both of these events.
While you are at the website, please take note of our donors and sponsors. Without the help of these generous individuals and their companies, many of our fundraisers would not be possible. Please click on their logos, visit their sites, use their services, and patronize their businesses. Our community thrives when we support those who live and work here.
Our Gala team is also making a sincere plea for additional volunteer help as well as auction donations, including services and in-kind donations. This team has already begun working around the clock. It truly takes a mountain to make the “Magic” happen and we hope you can help. I cannot thank these women enough and encourage you to thank them as well. Our amazing team this year consists of Kate Biagini, Lila Jones, Kate LeCornu and Mia Hammerschmidt. Their efforts enrich our kids’ education.
It is also with great pleasure that I announce the addition of four new LPEF Board Members. Please help me welcome Jennifer Chen, Danielle Garvey, Adelia Rowland and Lindsey Winter to the board. I look forward to the experience and enthusiasm that each of them are bringing.
Along with welcoming our new members, please help me thank our “retiring” board members: Shaun Olson and Julie Lane. The contributions and expertise of all our Board Members is critical to support our decision-making and fundraising. I personally thank them all for their dedication and efforts throughout the year.
Please do not hesitate to contact me at email@example.com if you have any questions about LPEF, our mission and goals, would like to join our board, as well as information about the programs that we fund. We are looking forward to another successful year, working to maintain these important programs for our kids.
