Having studied the work of James Audubon, the 6th grades made their own colored pencil drawings from photos of birds. Then they created whimsical bird sculptures using paper mache.
Wire Portraits, drawing in space
Switching things up a little, we went from drawing the head, a 3D form, with values on a 2D surface, to using line to describe the form in space. This was tricky, as the students had to think in a completely different way, while learning new skills in manipulating wire. This proved to be an unpredictable and fun project.
