    Dear Loma & CT Families:

Update on the Public Release of The 2015 CAASPP Scores

On September 9th, the California Department of Education (CDE) released the results of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CASPP). The public can view State results, County results and School results. I am very proud of how our students did over all. While our schools began preparing for the transition to the Common Core a full year after our colleagues in neighboring districts, the strength of our teaching staff and curriculum leadership helped us meet the challenge.

Our schools’ results show that students at Loma Elementary and C.T.English Middle School have scored above the average of Santa Clara County and the State. We have continued to show a continued pattern of growth across the grade span, which is particularly impressive. Below is a snapshot of how our students did overall.

    EL/Math standard

Individual student reports have just arrived to our schools and will be mailed home shortly. Do visit the District Website and look under the tab For Parents to locate information on how to read and understand your student’s CAASPP scores. You may follow this link: https://www.loma.k12.ca.us/Page/967

When looking at the results of the assessment please consider the following points

    ·      The new tests are too fundamentally different from the old exams to make any reliable comparisons between old scores and new scores.

    ·      The tests include performance tasks that challenge students to demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving, and to apply their knowledge and skills to real-world problems.

    ·      This year’s results will establish a new baseline for the progress we expect students to make over time, which was not possible in California’s previous system.

To view the publically released CAASPP data, follow this link http://caaspp.cde.ca.gov/sb2015/default

    Sincerely,

    Corey Kidwell, Superintendent/Principal

    Parking and Traffic Flow

The pick up and drop routines have changed for the remainder of the year.  Please know that if you come onto campus during those times, you will likely be in a line.  In order to create more spots for parents of young children who walk their kids to class, we are allowing staff, or others who will not be moving their vehicles during the school day, to park in the new bus loading zone.

There can be no through traffic in that zone during the day.  Please do not use it as a cut through lane to reach the lower lot.  This is our bus loading and pedestrian zone and no traffic is allowed.   If you need to park in the gravel lot come early or wait in line.  You are welcome to park in any open spot along the tree line in the main lot with the exception of the three reserved family spaces.  Parents can also park in either the gravel overflow lot on the main campus or across the street and use the bridge to meet your students.  If you want your child to be excused to walk to you across the bridge, we must have a note on file in the school office.

Please use all lots with safety first in mind.  Slow down, keep an eye out for students, and be patient.  Our students’ safety is the #1 priority.  Thank you to everyone who is using the bus, carpooling, or finding other ways to reduce traffic on campus.

Picture Day for both schools is tomorrow, Thursday 9/17/15. Students should have given parents an order envelope. All picture orders are due on picture day.

    CT HSC

The Loma Snack Shack is open for business! Every Saturday, during the Fall Mountain Soccer season (Sept 19th - Nov 7th) the Loma Snack Shack will be serving hot & cold drinks, donuts & bagels, assorted treats and ice cream. The CTE Home & School Club is sponsoring the Snack Shack this year as a fundraiser for 7th graders going to Yosemite and 8th graders going to DC.  These 7th & 8th students will be running the Snack Shack and the net profits will be applied to their upcoming trips based on the hours the student worked. Not only is this a great fundraiser for the students – it’s also quite a treat for the soccer players, parents and spectators. Who doesn’t love a hot coffee or hot cocoa on a cold morning?! Come out and cheer on our soccer athletes and help support the CTE 7th & 8th graders!

Shifts are still available – signup sheet is in the CT office. Questions? Please contact Sherry McNamara (sherry@scsi.com)/408-202-9466

The CT snack shack is now serving lunch every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Mondays and Fridays are pizza & sushi, and Wednesdays are bagel days. Go to the CT HSC to purchase pre-paid lunch cards for your student.

    CT Parents: PowerSchool

PowerSchool has changed the way they manage the parent sign on.  You will now be required to create an individual account on the PowerSchool site in order to see your child’s grades.  Your student will be bringing home a letter with your password and log in information today.  Please ask them for it.  Parents will need to click on the “CREATE AN ACCOUNT” link on the main page. Each parent may set up his or her own individual account. Ask your student for their Power School letter.

This account is not used for student access to Power School we are currently working on getting information to students on how to access their accounts on Power School. This information will be given to them at school. Students will not be able to login to Parent accounts unless each parent gives them direct access to their account. If your student will need more than one parent access letter, please have them come to the CT office.
