What a busy week. The 5th graders had an amazing performance at the concert. Both Ms. Lelake and I are extremely proud of how hard they practiced and worked together.

In math, we started on our last module of the year:  Problem Solving with the Coordinate Plane. We have also been enjoying math centers on Fridays. Please let me know if you would like to volunteer to help Fridays from 9-10. Lots of fun games of battleship are happening.

In writing, we are starting our research and informational writing unit about the American Revolution. Students will be choosing a character or specific event to research and write a essay on.

In addition, we are beginning to prepare for our Walk Through American Revolution day on May 8. Students will be choosing a character, memorizing lines, building props, rehearsing a skit in teams, etc.  The preparations will take place at school, but check in with your child about their character or part. It will an exciting day and you are welcome to attend. More information to come later.

CAASPP Testing Starts on Monday, April 22. 5th grade will test on Mondays and Tuesdays in the mornings.  Please have your child at school on time and schedule appointments for later in the week to avoid having to do makeup testing.

Hurray Team Ramsay’s Donors Choose project has been funded! Thanks to all who donated to our classroom project. It is greatly appreciated. The kids are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their flexible seating.

Report Cards and Conferences: Report cards were sent home on Wednesday. Please ask your child if you didn’t receive it. Spring Conferences are optional and can be requested by either parent or teacher. Conferences are March 12th-14th. If I am requesting a conference, you have already been contacted.

    Welcome back from break!!

Math:  We began a new module in math on Monday. Module 5 is addition and multiplication with Volume.

Report Cards and Conferences: Report cards will be sent home on Wednesday March 6th. Spring Conferences are optional and can be requested by either parent or teacher. Conferences are March 12th-14th. If I am requesting a conference, you have already been contacted.

Students get “paid” monthly for classroom jobs and they pay monthly rent for their desks. Students get bonus dollars for showing good behavior, but they’re fined for actions such as not having homework. Ask your child about it. They have been very engaged. We will hold an auction in April where they can spend some of their hard earned class dollars :-)

It was a busy, but productive week in Room 12.  I continue to be amazed by this wonderful group of children. They got a chance to show off their impressive writing skills when Mrs. Zook visited us during writers’ workshop. She was impressed by not only their academic knowledge, but by their behavior and helpfulness to each other. These kids rock!

Math: we are plugging away with Module 4! Kids have a great grasp on multiplying and dividing fractions and decimals. They are showing a lot of grit when working with word problems.

Hello again, families! It was a busy week but we were able to run outside!

Math: We took the mid-module 4 test. I am impressed by how well the students did. Hopefully, all the assessments made it home for parent viewing and signature. We will continue to work on Multiplication and Division with Fractions and Decimal Fractions.

More than 87% of the class has reached the 50% Khan goal. Our next goal is 70% completion by mid-March.

Writing - We continue to work on persuasive writing. We are looking forward to sharing these with our 2nd grade buddies and families.

I have updated our Team Ramsay Wish List and Math Homework Page. The students are hoping for more flexible seating options. Please & Thank You!

Please sign your child’s homework planner daily and help them return their library books every Tuesday.

Wow what a week with lots of indoor recess however, I am so impressed with the perseverance and grit these 5th graders are showing in math.  The math conversations are amazing. Our Khan class goal for the end of January is 50% completion of 5th grade Khan. Most of them are either already there or very close to the goal.  Our AR goal for the end of January is 400,000 words. Please make sure your child is not only reading, but taking AR quizzes after they finish a book. We have many avid readers whose AR word count doesn’t reflect their passion for reading :-)

Writing: This week students chose a debate topic to write their next persuasive writing piece on. I look forward to reading all the reasons why--- gum should be allowed at school, schools should start later, video games are good for the mind, etc.

Social Studies:  We will be learning about the early New England Colonies of Massachusetts Bay, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Hampshire. Check it out with your child! www.studiesweekly.com
