We had our in class Spelling Bee. Congratulations to our top two spellers--Peter & Sophie. They move onto the school-wide semi-finals. From there, the top winners go to the finals!

In Writing this week we began a creative narrative project. Students are writing about being trapped in a snowglobe! They have to make this a realistic fiction piece and consider some key elements: How did you get into the snowglobe? What are you doing in the snowglobe? Are you happy in there, sad, scared? How do you get out of the snowglobe?

Our class has voted to have a holiday Secret Santa gift exchange which will take place at our class party next Friday 12/21. Participation in the exchange is completely optional, but I do ask that they follow through if they choose to participate. Look for an email next week with more details.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will begin to look at the CAASPP test as a class. The CAASPP is the state test taken by all students 3rd grade and higher. The entire test is taken online. It consists of math and Language Arts and written portions in both. We'll be practicing the tests that are available online to everyone. Check them out to see what these students will be doing: http://www.caaspp.org/practice-and-training/. From this spot, select "Student Interface Practice and Training Tests." Sign-in as a guest and then select Grade 5. Choose any test in the "Smarter Balanced Practice Tests" to preview! Students will be taking different versions of each of the four tests during the testing window in early May. More information will come as we get closer to the test; just want you to know we're going to begin looking at it and practicing it!

    Thanks,

    Mrs. Ramsay
