Superintendent's Update of 2/26/21 - School Reopening

As you are aware, the COVID-19 and Reopening In-Person Instruction Framework & Public Health Guidance for K-12 Schools in California, 2020-2021 School Year allows K-6 schools to reopen if Santa Clara County adjusted case rates remain below 25/100,000 for five consecutive days. As of today, the Santa Clara County Public Health Department Blueprint Dashboard shows adjusted case rates as 6.7/100,000 and the test positivity rate at 2.4% which is great news as we prepare to reopen our schools.

I am beyond excited to report that for those who have chosen to have their child(ren) attend in-person, we are on track to return to hybrid in-person Instruction for K-5 Loma Elementary students at the start of the new trimester on March 8 and will reopen for C.T. English 6th graders at the start of the fourth quarter on March 22. Reopening for 7th and 8thgrade students is still pending.

Principal Martin and I will be hosting a virtual Parent Information Night at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 1 wherein we will share important logistical information about school reopening and answer any questions you may have. Below is the meeting link for your convenience. We sincerely hope you’ll join us. If you are unable to attend, a recording of the session will be posted for viewing. Please also note that other detailed school reopening dates/activities were included in the Wednesday News this week.

Important!

Please be reminded that this Monday, March 1 is a district-wide non-student day to allow for classroom preparations.

Other encouraging news on the horizon is that employee/teacher access to vaccinations, which is critical to our COVID-19 risk mitigation efforts, is moving forward this weekend. We hope to have all teachers and staff fully vaccinated very soon.

I look forward to connecting with you on Monday evening and can’t wait to greet our K-5 kids on Monday, March 8. It has been a long haul for sure, but welcoming kids back to school will make it all worth the effort. Please continue to do your part to follow health and safety guidance such that we can keep our schools open as well.
